It's Friday! Rejoice! Pour the booze, pass to the left and roll right on in to this weekend with all of the energy you can muster because, after a week in Vegas, I have none. Neither your energy nor your time need be spent at all in movie theaters this weekend. Unless you're catching the few remaining screenings of this or previewing what will be ground into your skull for the next month or so...the Oscar Contenders.* So save the dough and buy The Madame a round, and let's do this. (It's a requirement at Casa Mock on Fridays to do so. No, really. It's written in our contracts and everything.)
SEE: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
Eh, if you insist on going to the movies, I figure, and if you're going to have an emotional epiphany, then who better to induce it than Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock? And a kid that is so crazy smart, in fact, that when interviewed on 20/20, and asked if he wanted to be an actor when he grew up, he replied, "No, I think there's more for me to do than just act." Most adults don't even have that kind of candor. Cheers, to that, young lad.
RENT: Dogtown & Z-Boys
No, no, not the horrible feature film version- though I truly liked Heath Ledger's performance and always think of him at the end of that hideous celluloid flop whenever Maggie May comes on the radio- but I digress. This, my little lemmings, is one of the best sports documentaries to come out to date. This is why we're here, to help you get your learn on, to help expose you to the truly great things in life. Like a single Daniel Craig. Or a really good movie with an amazingly great soundtrack. Bonus points for having Jeff Spicoli as the narrator. How could this be anything but right? Here's just a small little taste. Savor it and swallow it whole when you get home.
SKIP: Underworld Awakening
Yet another of those franchises that just won't die. Putting it in 3D is not going to make the story better. Or Kate Beckinsale any better. Please, go away. You'd be better off making a documentary about the amazing music group by the same name. (You can have that idea for free, filmmakers.)
I did it my way,
Dame Derision
*Those will be covered with in-depth coverage and major mockage, just like last year! So you've got that to look forward to.
